GEZ "G-MAN/LFO" VARLEY
BIOG:
G-Man aka Gez Varley first came to prominence, alongside Mark Bell, as the founding member of the groundbreaking electronic group LFO.
LFO is acknowledged to have been an essential part of the Northern powerhouse that spawned the Bleep Techno movement in the late '80s, and their genre-defining releases, on Warp Records & Tommy Boy, sold over 150,000 records worldwide, making the producers a massive electronic global success.
Always progressing forward, in 1996 Gez created his first solo project, naming his alter-production-ego: G-MAN.
This new persona gave Gez the freedom to enter a darker and deeper Technosphere, a place where he is truly happy to be.
As well as Warp Records & Tommy Boy, Gez Varley has recorded for most of the worlds leading record labels including Force-Inc, Gigolo, Swim, White Noise, +8 and !K7 for whom he produced the first G-Man studio album in 1997.
Over the years Gez has worked with countless producers including Richie Hawtin, Karl Bartos, Marco Carola and Thomas P Heckmann, provided remixes for many artists including Radio Head, YMO, Art of Noise, Laurent Garnier, Soft Ballet, AUX, Alan Wilder (Depeche Mode) and remixed "Planet Rock" for Afrika Bambaataa!
As a DJ, Gez' Techno sets are in massive demand globally. He has graced the decks at the top clubs around the world including "Nature One" Germany, Sonar Spain, Berghain Berlin, "The Omen" Frankfurt, "The Orbit Leeds, "Liquid Room Tokyo, New Music Seminar New York, and more.
Over a 30 year career, Gez has sold over 500,000 records, not including remixes and compilations. His signature sound & music can be heard in computer games and TV adverts around the world.
Along with his close friend and fellow DJ/Producer Edzy from Unique 3, Gez recently (Jan 2020) launched his own Techno record label. The new label is named TAN TA RA Records, a name obviously taken from a track title on LFO's seminal album: "Frequencies", released on Warp Records in 1991
